Clinton County Farm Bureau Completes Annual Corn Yield Survey

The Clinton County Farm Bureau (CFB) completed its Yield Survey of the county’s corn crop on Tuesday, August 25. A total of five teams of surveyors consisting of Farm Bureau members, agribusiness representatives, and ag students from Carlyle High School surveyed Clinton County for the annual yield survey.

The county was divided into five areas, with 10 samples taken in each area. Average corn yields calculated for each area are summarized in the table on page 6.

Corn samplings ranged from a low of 160 to a high of 264 bushels per acre, with an overall county average calculated to be 203.63 bu./acre. The committee did not attempt to make an estimate on soybean yields, but instead made more general observations of pod counts and overall crop conditions. These observations were gathered primarily for educational purposes, giving participating FFA students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in crop scouting, field sampling, and evaluating crop conditions while learning more about factors that can impact crop yields.
