Clinton County Hosts 14th Annual Progressive Ag Safety Day

On Thursday, September 25, 412 sixth-grade students from across Clinton County participated in the 14th Annual Progressive Ag Safety Day, sponsored by the Clinton County Farm Bureau’s Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) Program. The event was coordinated by Ag Literacy Coordinator Susan Kleiboeker with the help of numerous community groups and dedicated volunteers.

Students from Albers, All Saints Academy, Aviston, Bartelso, Breese District 12, Carlyle, Damiansville, Germantown, Wesclin, and Willow Grove schools spent the day rotating through nine of thirteen hands-on, safety-themed stations. Topics included Hunter Safety, Electric Safety, ATV Awareness, Chemical Lookalikes, Grain Safety, Fit to Be a Farmer, Animal Safety, Water Safety, Plant Safety, Insect Safety, 811 Julie, Confinement Safety (Manure Pit), Sun Safety, and PTO Safety.

The goal of the program is for each student to return home and share what they learned with their families, reinforcing safe practices and preparing them to make smart choices when faced with potentially dangerous situations. While farm safety was emphasized, many sessions focused on everyday safety topics that apply to all students, regardless of whether they live or work on a farm.

This event would not be possible without the outstanding support of local volunteers. Over 75 individuals—including members of FFA Chapters from Breese Central, Mater Dei Catholic High School, Carlyle, Wesclin, and Christ Our Rock—generously gave their time to ensure the day’s success. Clinton County Farm Bureau extends its sincere thanks to everyone who helped make this program possible.
