Sprout Scouts Return for New School Year

With students back in the classroom and the new school year underway, it’s time for the Sprout Scouts to get organized once again!

The Clinton County Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom Program launched the Sprout Scouts program last year as a way to connect high school students with younger students while promoting agricultural education. The program was such a success that it is returning and expanding for the 2026-27 school year.

On August 12, eight juniors and seniors from Carlyle and Wesclin High Schools participated in a Sprout Scouts “Boot Camp” to prepare for their year of service. During the training, students learned more about the Agriculture in the Classroom program and prepared for their upcoming classroom visits.

Throughout the school year, the high school students will be paired with a partner and visit an elementary classroom once a month to present an engaging, hands-on agriculture lesson. The Sprout Scouts will work with students helping them learn where their food comes from, how agriculture impacts their everyday lives, and the important role farmers play in their communities.

The first Sprout Scouts lessons will take place in October and will combine the fun of Halloween with lessons about nutrition and healthy food choices.

We are excited to continue building this program and providing high school students with an opportunity to develop leadership skills while inspiring the next generation to learn more about agriculture.
